Man bags two years jail term for stealing 1.9m property

The defendant, who resides in Mahuta in Kaduna, was tried on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and theft. The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, summarily tried and sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Emmanuel held that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others would-be offenders. The magistrate, who held that the sentence would run concurrently, however, gave the convict an option of N150,000 fine and warned him to stay clear of crime in the future.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that Aaron and others at large, on April 14 at about 4:30a.m, at Sabon Tasha Kaduna conspired and broke in to the shop of one Victor Mark and stole his property.

“Items stolen during the burglary included N200,000 cash,  men and ladies wears, jewelry, footwear, perfumes, body spray all valued at N1.9 million. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
