Kaduna,(TheGavel) – A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Rabiu Yusuf to 16 weeks imprisonment for stealing two iPhones valued at N678,000. The convict pleaded guilty to the charges of criminal conspiracy and theft.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, in his ruling, found that the defendant failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his actions and ordered him to desist from any future criminal activities.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Chidi Leo, informed the court that the defendant, along with two other individuals who remain at large, carried out the theft on September 13th in Kurmin Marshi, Kaduna.

The defendants entered the complainant’s shop, Zainab Salisu’s, under the guise of purchasing clothing materials. While the iPhones were being charged, the defendants stole them and fled the scene.

However, the theft was captured on CCTV footage, which led to the identification of Yusuf as the perpetrator. The stolen iPhones were subsequently traced to his residence, where he was arrested.

The prosecution argued that the defendant’s actions violated the provisions of the Kaduna State Penal Code of 2017. The court agreed and imposed the 16-week sentence.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures in retail establishments and the consequences of theft.(NAN)
