A man, Haruna Adamu, has been arraigned before the Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court after he strangled his three-year-old daughter over a quarrel with his wife.
Adamu, a resident of Olaifa Street, off Cele Road, Igando, Lagos, was said to have had a quarrel with his wife over an undisclosed matter before he strangled little Rebecca.
His wife and residents raised an alarm after which he was reported to the Igando Division of the police. He was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba for further investigation.
The court did not take the 37-year-old’s plea after the prosecutor, Inspector Olatunde Kehinde, asked that the matter be referred to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Ekundayo, ordered his remand in custody without granting him bail pending the outcome of the DPP’s report and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 8th March 2022.
Adamu, if found guilty, risks life imprisonment.
