The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has disclosed that he is taking English lessons to improve his spoken communication skills.
He made this known on Tuesday while addressing Nollywood actor Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami, and other attendees at a rally organised in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
His remarks have since attracted attention on social media following the circulation of a video showing the exchange.
Speaking in Yoruba, MC Oluomo acknowledged that he and Lege Miami were not fluent in English, adding that he had decided to take lessons to improve his proficiency.
He also explained that despite travelling frequently outside Nigeria, he had yet to become fluent in the language.
“Neither of us speaks English fluently, so I am taking classes to improve. I travel around the world. I am a citizen of America.
“When I get to immigration and they ask how many weeks I want to stay, I tell them no, this is my home. I am a US citizen; I am going home,” he said.
The NURTW president also spoke about the educational and professional achievements of his children, noting that they work in various professions in the United States.
“My children can speak better than me. My children in the US are nurses, a doctor and an engineer,” he said.
He further disclosed that he sometimes relies on his children to communicate on his behalf when he struggles to express himself in English.
“If I get somewhere and cannot speak English well, I will give the microphone to one of my children,” he added.
MC Oluomo’s latest remarks come months after he faced criticism on social media in April 2025 over his pronunciation of the word ‘kudos’ as ‘kundusi’ while praising members of the transport union in Abuja.
