Military Will Continue to Defend Democracy, Says CDS

Abuja, August 27, 2024 (TheGavel) — General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), reaffirmed the Nigerian Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding the nation’s democracy during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

General Musa expressed gratitude for the minister’s support, which has enabled the military to effectively carry out its constitutional duties. He highlighted the military’s significant successes in countering terrorism, insurgency, and other criminal activities across the country.

The CDS noted that the armed forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, are dedicated to protecting vital government assets and enhancing oil production to stimulate economic growth.

In his response, Minister Edun praised the military for its role in preserving national unity and democracy. He emphasized that the military’s dedication is crucial for the economic stability and prosperity of the country.

Edun acknowledged the substantial sacrifices made by the armed forces and assured that the nation’s economy is progressing well. He cited positive indicators of improved economic performance under the current administration.
