Nigerian Mental Health Advocate Receives Prestigious Global Awards

Lagos, Nigeria(TheGavel) – Dr. Emmanuel Ahmadu, a Nigerian who has made headlines for sitting for the WASSCE exams 17 times, has been honored with two highly esteemed global awards from the prestigious Marquis Who’s Who in America for 2024.

Ahmadu was recognized as one of the Who is Who of Humanitarians and Philanthropists Worldwide and was also named a Global Mental Health Advocate by Marquis Who’s Who in America. These awards were officially announced on the Worldwide Humanitarian website on August 19, 2024, in the United States.

Ahmadu’s dedication to mental health, particularly among students and young adults, has garnered international recognition. He noted that the mental health crisis among students worldwide has reached alarming levels, with recent statistics revealing that one in five students in the U.S. are struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated these challenges, leading to a 31 percent increase in mental health emergencies among students.

Drawing from his personal experiences and global advocacy work, Ahmadu is set to launch an ambitious mental health initiative called “Resilience Rise.” This initiative aims to address critical issues such as social misconduct, gun violence, bullying, and suicide among students. By leveraging his expertise and the recognition he has garnered, Ahmadu hopes to build a culture of resilience and mental well-being in schools, empowering students to overcome their struggles.

Ahmadu’s personal journey is a testament to resilience. Despite facing educational disruptions caused by family instability, he persevered and completed his O’level exams 17 times. Before relocating to the USA, he conducted a mental health awareness and sensitization tour across fifty high schools in Kwara State, Nigeria, earning a state award for his successful efforts.

In addition to the global awards from Marquis Who’s Who, Ahmadu has also received other prestigious honors. On June 8, he received an honorary Doctorate Degree in International Affairs (DIA) from Global Seminary University, New York, in collaboration with GEPEA University, Portugal, in recognition of his contributions to promoting peace, sustainable mental wellness, and hope globally. He was also honored as a Professional Doctoral Fellow by The Across Global Institute of Foreign Languages (AGIFL) for his outstanding leadership and global achievements in mental healthcare.   

Ahmadu’s work is making a significant impact on communities worldwide, offering practical solutions and hope in the ongoing fight against the global mental health crisis.(NAN)
