Mrs. Yetunde Longe, NPF’s First Female Secretary, Retires
Lagos, August 27, 2024 (TheGavel) — Mrs. Yetunde Longe, the first female Secretary of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), retired on Tuesday after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The retirement ceremony took place at the Police College in Ikeja, attended by police officers, family, and friends. Longe, who retired with the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), was honored by senior officials, including Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the South-West, Mr. Abiodun Alabi.
Reflecting on her career, Longe expressed a deep sense of pride and fulfillment. “As I retire from the Nigeria Police Force, having reached the mandatory age of 60 years, I am filled with a profound sense of pride, accomplishment, and fulfillment,” she said.
Describing her journey as “incredible” and “fulfilling,” Longe acknowledged the formidable challenges she faced throughout her career. She extended her gratitude to her colleagues, superiors, family, and friends for their unwavering support, pledging to carry forward the principles of service, integrity, and excellence in her future endeavors.
“As I step into a new chapter in my life, I do so with optimism and readiness for the opportunities and challenges ahead,” Longe added.
Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, represented by DIG Alabi, commended Longe for her professionalism and exemplary service. He urged current police officers to follow her example, highlighting her bravery, commitment, and integrity.
“We continue to draw inspiration from your career and your wealth of experience. Your career has been marked by countless acts of humility, compassion, and dedication,” Egbetokun said.
He praised Longe for her unique role as the only female to have served as the Force Secretary and acknowledged her significant positive impact on the NPF.
