Lagos, Aug. 28, 2024 (TheGavel): The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have strengthened their collaboration to ensure the safety and security of haulage operations at ports, aimed at reducing the cost of doing business.
During a sensitization program titled “Safe to Load on All Nigerian Roads” held in Lagos, NSC’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Pius Akutah, emphasized the importance of safety in haulage operations. He stressed that safety is a call to action for haulage operators to ensure that every vehicle on the highway is roadworthy, drivers are qualified, and cargoes are properly loaded, secured, and transported.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, highlighted the need to address extortion and destruction of trucks by hoodlums, emphasizing the importance of a clean and attractive environment for investors.
The Director of Inland Transport Services Department of NSC, Mrs. Ify Okolue, explained that the sensitization program was a result of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between NSC and FRSC in November 2017. She emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to ensure safety of lives and cargoes in transit.
Assistant Corps Marshal, ACM Hyginus Omeje, stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration for the successful operation of the electronic call-up system at ports.
The Secretary General of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), Muhammed Sani, sought NSC’s support in addressing the incessant attacks on drivers and trucks by hoodlums, which have resulted in significant losses and threats to the Nigerian economy. (NAN)
