The Director of General Services Department, National Youth Service Corps, National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, has charged Corps Members to build and sustain lasting relationships during the service year, noting that relationships formed in the Orientation Camp often endure for a lifetime.
Mrs. Baderinwa gave the charge on Thursday, October 15, 2026, while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Corps Members during her official visit to the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja.
She encouraged Corps Members to leverage the diversity of the camp, people from different backgrounds, religions and regions, to foster unity and lasting friendships. She also admonished them to be law-abiding, disciplined and to strictly adhere to all camp rules and regulations.
The Director further urged them to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, especially in rural areas.
Speaking on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, Mrs. Baderinwa enjoined Corps Members to acquire at least two skills, stressing that white-collar jobs are no longer readily available and that SAED remains a veritable tool for self-reliance and wealth creation.
On Community Development Service (CDS), the former Coordinator of NYSC Anambra and Lagos States urged Corps Members to make meaningful impact in their host communities by executing projects based on the felt needs of the people.
She also cautioned them against negative use of social media, urged them to be security conscious, avoid late-night movements and ostentatious lifestyles, and to remain change agents who speak up constructively.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mr. Samson Ateli, described the Director’s visit as heart-warming and highly inspirational for Corps Members.
Presenting his camp report, Mr. Ateli noted that the conduct of Corps Members has been exemplary, with a high sense of discipline and resilience displayed in all camp activities. He also commended Camp Officials for their professionalism and dedication to duty.
Highlights of the visit included a vibrant cultural performance by Platoon 1 in honour of the Director, the presentation of cash gifts to Corps representatives by the Director, the inspection of key camp facilities and interaction with Camp security personnel.
