Abuja, Sept. 23, 2024 (TheGavel) — The Community Advocacy for Peace and Strategic Leadership Initiative (CAPSL-Initiative) has praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries ahead of the local council elections scheduled for November 16.
In a statement issued by its Chairman Akwuobi Francis and Secretary Pius Pamela, the group commended the affirmation process that led to the selection of APC chairmanship candidates on Sunday. They highlighted that this development showcases Governor Abiodun’s ability to foster consensus, which they believe will significantly reduce potential pre- and post-election crises across the 20 Local Government Areas.
“We have no political leaning whatsoever; our interest is the security of lives and property of Ogun residents before, during, and after the election,” the statement read. The CSO asserted that the governor’s initiative would help de-escalate tensions that could arise during the electoral process.
The group emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts by security and law enforcement agencies to address security challenges in the region. They urged the public to actively support relevant authorities by reporting any suspicious activities, reinforcing the notion that security is a collective responsibility.
CAPSL-Initiative also called on other stakeholders—including non-governmental organizations and corporate entities—to commit to maintaining peace and order in Ogun State. They encouraged sister civil society organizations and businesses to collaborate for the overall progress of Ogun and Nigeria as a whole.
Furthermore, the group appealed to parents and guardians to instill moral values in their children and urged youth groups to educate their members about the consequences of unlawful behavior.
In conclusion, CAPSL-Initiative reiterated its call for political parties and stakeholders to adhere to established rules and protocols throughout the electoral process. “Nigerians must always remember that there is no substitute for peace and order,” they emphasized. (NAN)
