The Ogun State Police Command has declared popular music artiste Habeeb Okikiola, known as “Portable”, wanted for allegedly attacking government officials performing their lawful duties.
According to a statement issued by CSP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the command, the incident occurred when officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office, were conducting an enforcement exercise. The officials arrived at Portable’s property on February 5 at around 10:00 a.m. and met an elderly man, identified as Portable’s father, at Odogwu Bar.
After identifying themselves and requesting for the approved building plan, the officials were informed that Portable was not available. Moments later, Portable reportedly arrived armed with a firearm and other dangerous weapons, leading a gang of nine thugs in a violent attack on the unarmed officials. The enforcement officers sustained various injuries but managed to escape and reported the incident to the Ota Area Command. The case was then escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.
Nine accomplices were arrested, but Portable fled the scene and has since been in hiding. Despite multiple formal invitations to appear at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, Portable has ignored these requests without cause or legal representation. As a result, the Ogun State Police Command obtained a valid court order declaring him wanted.
Odutola called on the public to assist the police by providing any valuable information that could lead to Portable’s immediate arrest. “Anyone found aiding or harboring the suspect will face legal consequences,” she warned. For any relevant information, individuals are encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Ogun State Police Command through its official communication channels or the Police Public Relations Department.
Assaulting government officials while they’re doing their jobs is a serious crime, often classified as obstruction of justice and violent conduct. If convicted, Portable could face charges like assault, obstruction of duty, and illegal possession of firearms. His failure to respond to police invitations complicates his legal situation even further and could lead to additional charges for evading law enforcement.
