A woman, Rebecca Nicodemus, has stabbed her rival to death for taking her turn for sex with their husband.

The 25-year-old, who is the second wife, reportedly got angry after their husband left her in the middle of lovemaking and went to Precious, the senior wife, to have sex with her.

The incident happened on February 4, 2022, at their residence in Idogun Camp, Ode-Irele, Ondo State around 5 am.

Trouble was said to have started when late Precious, having been satisfied, stepped out of the room after she had slept with their husband and she challenged the second wife, Rebecca over her comments against her while she was having sex with their husband.

In the course of their argument, Rebecca stabbed Precious, who was declared dead on arrival at a hospital she was rushed to for treatment.

Rebecca was arrested and arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for murder. She told the court that she did not intentionally kill her rival, explaining that they had lived in harmony with their husband since she arrived in the state in January 2022. She added that while her husband left her to have sex with the deceased, she heard them making derogatory remarks about her, which made her angry. She further said her rival had grabbed her by her clothes when she challenged her after the lovemaking session.

She pleaded with the court, saying she overreacted due to anger.

The Police Prosecutor, Obadasa Ajiboye, informed the court that the defendant stabbed her victim with a knife at her left backside which resulted in her death. He said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Plea of the defendant was not taken but the prosecution made an oral application to remand the defendant in prison custody pending the outcome of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In his ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, ordered the remand of Rebecca in Police custody and adjourned the case to 22nd February 2022, for ruling on the remand application.
