Nigerian singer Patoranking has expressed disappointment with Nigeria’s electoral system, contrasting the country’s election process with the peaceful conduct of the recent United States midterm elections.

The singer, in a post shared on X, highlighted what he described as a striking difference between the electoral experiences of both countries.

He noted that no lives were lost during the American polls and there were no reported incidents of ballot box snatching.

Patoranking also lamented what he described as the normalisation of poor conduct in Nigeria, arguing that the country’s systemic challenges have made citizens increasingly accustomed to accepting unacceptable behaviour as standard practice.

His comments have reignited conversations about electoral credibility, voter safety and the need for improvements in Nigeria’s democratic process.

US midterm elections are general elections conducted around the halfway point of a president’s four-year term. They are traditionally held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

During the elections, voters decide on several federal and state positions, including all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 33 or 34 seats in the Senate.

Governorship elections are also held in 34 states, where governors serve four-year terms, while Vermont and New Hampshire elect their governors for two-year terms.
