Police arraign 40-yr-old over alleged generator theft

The Osun Police Command, on Monday, arraigned 40-year-old Agboola Lekan before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged generator theft.

The  Police Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offence at about midnight on July 12, at Olajumoke Hostel, Ooni Layout, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant allegedly stole the generator, which the occupant of the hostel was using to pump water.

He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that could cause a breach of the peace in the area by his act.

According to him, the generator, valued at N400,000, was the property of one  Precious Oladeji.

He further said that the offence contravened section 383 and punishable under sections 249(d), 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who had no legal representation, however, pleaded
not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of the peace and stealing.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi granted him bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Sarumi said  that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and that one of them must own land in the area.

She further said that the second surety must be a tax payer with three years tax certificate, adding that they must present Nigerian identification cards, with three recent passport photographs each.

The case was adjourned to September 9 for hearing. (NAN)
