Ado-Ekiti, Sept. 23, 2024 (TheGavel) — The Police in Ekiti have arraigned a 27-year-old man, Oladeru Gbenga, for allegedly stealing 19 kegs of diesel.
Gbenga, who does not have a fixed address, faces a two-count charge of theft and breach of peace. He pleaded not guilty before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti.
The prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the alleged offences occurred between May and September at Housing Estate Extension, off Afao Road, Ado-Ekiti. Oriyomi claimed that Gbenga stole 19 kegs, each containing 30 liters of diesel, totaling N741,000, which belonged to Mr. Olujobi Sunday, the complainant.
Oriyomi also stated that the defendant behaved in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, noting that Mr. Sunday had accommodated Gbenga in his home during the period when the diesel was stolen.
The offences are said to contravene Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Chief Magistrate Mr. Abayomi Adeosun granted bail to Gbenga in the amount of N150,000, requiring one surety in a similar sum. The case has been adjourned until October 8 for further hearing. (NAN)
