Olukayode Majekodunmi Esq.
The Executive Governor of Osun state, His Excellency, Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, recently announced the nominees that will make up the Executive Council of the State. I was pleasantly surprised and very delighted to see the name of Oluwole Jimi-Bada Esq on the list. This is essentially because Wole has never been involved in open play politics, and he has always been an active adherent in the Temple of Justice. He has been so actively involved in the practice of law that he has become a regular feature in most Law Reports, especially on issues of Election Petitions and other Constitutional issues.
Wole has made a special name for himself with his mastery of law and procedures that one would have expected the Legal Practitioners Privilege Committee to have taken notice of him and specially invite him to put in an application for the position of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. As the debate continues amongst those of us whose paths crossed his as to when he would be made a SAN, the Governor of Osun State saw what the legal profession has not seen and nominated him to be the Chief Law Officer of the state.
Wole Jimi-Bada hails from one of the esteemed Royal Houses of Ile-Ife. His grandfather, Mofolusho Bada was of a class of the first generation of lawyers from Ile-Ife. He is also known to have contested for the highly revered Ooni Royal stool at some point in history. Barrister Oluwole Jimi-Bada is the scion of the Hon Justice Jimi Olukayode Bada who is the presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal Lagos –a giant whose stride in the legal profession has inspired legends.
My first contact with Wole was at the Faculty of Law at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He was a very studious student with crystal clear picture of what he wanted in life. He is a representation of the best tradition of the Ife Faculty of Law, and also my ‘go-to’ person anytime I needed to get case and subject authorities before the advent of the research software. I noticed that anytime I called my friend to ask of his opinion on any legal issues, he always supplied me with legal authorities, astonishingly inclusive of the citations and page numbers. That was strange to me and I was looking at how he was able to do that all the time. I later realized Wole eats, sleeps, and thinks law all the time.

Before concluding this testimony in respect of Wole Jimi Bada, reflections on his person is incomplete without peeping into the large room of Thanksgiving for his life that was spared when Providence came calling. Sometime in 2006, precisely on February 8, he had a life-threatening accident for which he was on admission at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) unit of the OAUTH till. He was discharged in May of the same year. In July of the same year, he was admitted at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu for about two weeks. His life and limbs were spared, and Wole has manifested living a life of immense value as an astute Professional. Without doubt, Oluwole Jimi Bada is an asset to the legal profession. His marks are already recorded in Law Reports. In conclusion, I deem it necessary to buttress the previous sentence by sharing some of Wole Jimi Bada’s Law Report work-marks for posterity.
