Published! Buhari’s letter sacking Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia

It is now clear that President Muhammadu Buhari actually sacked Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia on November 7, 2018, based on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council(NJC), the same highest judiciary organ the reinstated her as a judicial officer on December 1, 2022. Gavel International hereby publishes President Muhammadu Buhari’s November 7, 2018 letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria informing him about his decision.

The letter is titled: Appointments of one justice of the Supreme Court, a member of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, and dismissals of Hon Mr Justice James T. Agbadu-Fishim, and Hon Mr Justice R.N Ofilii-Ajumogobia”.

President Buhari stated in the letter: “I wish to inform you of my decision, on 6th November 2018 to make the following appointments and dismissals pursuant to recommendations of the National Judicial Council”.

In the letter, Hon Justice Uwani Musa Abba-Aji was appointed Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, while Hon Julie Abieyuwa Anabor was appointed as a member of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Justices Agbadu-Fishim, and Ofili-Ajumogobia were dismissed by the president, pursuant to Section 292(1)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The Chief Judge of Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho had on December 7, 2022 announced the reinstatement of the embattled judge, quoting the December 1, 2022 meeting of the NJC. “Your Lordships are by this circular letter notified that at the Meeting of the National Judicial Council held on the 1st of December, 2022, the Council reinstated the Hon. Justice R. N. Ofili-Ajumogobia as a Judicial Officer. The reinstatement takes instant effect and there shall be consequential posting.”
