A distinguished senior lecturer at Accra Technical University, Ahmed Gedel boasts an impressive 17-year tenure of teaching, learning, and research expertise in the departments of Science Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Medical Equipment Technology. His expertise extends to Sanitation and Waste Management, Agribusiness, and Industrial Fabrication, making him a versatile and invaluable asset to the community.
With a strong science and technology background, Ahmed M. Gedel has consistently demonstrated his ability to drive positive change, promote sustainable development, and address pressing issues such as job creation, climate justice, and environmental sustainability. In an interview with Gavel International Correspondent, Ibrahim Ikowe Jibril, Gedel talk about his involvement in Ghana politics. Excepts:
How did you get into Ghanaian politics?
My journey into Ghanaian politics began with a passion for public service and a desire to contribute to the development of our great nation. Growing up, I was inspired by the selfless leadership of Ghana’s founding fathers, who fought tirelessly for independence and a better life for all Ghanaians.
As I grew older, my interest in politics deepened, and I became increasingly involved in community service and advocacy. My experience as a Constituency Secretary and Election Director for the East Ayawaso constituency provided valuable insight into the inner workings of Ghanaian politics and solidified my commitment
to serve our community.
What difference do you expect to make in governance should the citizens of East Ayawaso vote you in?
As Municipal Chief Executive, I pledge to bring a transformative approach to governance in East Ayawaso. My administration will prioritize transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, ensuring that every citizen has a voice and a stake in our collective progress.
We will focus on sustainable development, investing in initiatives that promote economic growth, social justice, and environmental sustainability. By fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation, we will unlock the full potential of our community and create a brighter future for all.
What makes you feel you are the best for the Municipal Chief Executive?
With over 17 years of experience as a lecturer at Accra Technical University, I possess a unique blend of academic expertise and practical knowledge. My background in science and technology has equipped me with the skills to drive innovation and sustainable development. As a seasoned leader, I have a proven track record of delivering results and making a positive impact in our community.
My passion for public service, combined with my experience and expertise, make me the ideal candidate for the position of Municipal Chief Executive.
People in Ghana are currently not happy about the level of poverty, which strategy do you have in place to redeem such deteriorated situations?
To address the pressing issue of poverty in Ghana, I propose a multifaceted approach that prioritizes economic empowerment, social protection, and community development. We will invest in initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, job creation, and skills training, while also strengthening social safety nets and supporting vulnerable populations.
By fostering partnerships with local businesses, civil society organizations, and international development agencies, we will leverage resources and expertise to drive sustainable poverty reduction and improve the overall well-being of our citizens.
What is your message to the citizens of your constituency and to Ghanaians as whole?
Global Best Practices, Local Solutions: Applying Lessons from the USA to Transform East Ayawaso.
My two-year sojourn in the United States, split between academic pursuits at the esteemed CUNY Graduate Center and professional endeavors as a Senior Accessibility Clerk Officer for the New York State Board of Elections, has been a transformative odyssey.
This enriching experience afforded me the privilege of forging synergistic connections with over 10 visionary Mayors from diverse USA states, paving the way for potential collaborations and sister city relationships that can catapult the East Ayawaso Municipal Assembly onto the global stage.
As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded that the confluence of intellectual curiosity, cultural immersion, and professional expertise has not only broadened my perspective but also instilled in me an unwavering commitment to harnessing the power of global best practices to drive sustainable development and grassroots empowerment in my beloved East Ayawaso constituency.
To maximize the impact of my international exposure, I decided to consider the following strategies when elected MCE:
Cultural Exchange Programs: Establish cultural exchange programs that allow residents of East Ayawaso to engage with international visitors, promoting cross-cultural understanding and knowledge sharing.
Sister City Relationships: Foster sister city relationships with cities in the USA, facilitating collaboration in areas like education, healthcare, waste management, and economic development.
Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity-building programs for local leaders( assembly members and government appointees), entrepreneurs, and community members, empowering them to drive development and innovation in East Ayawaso.
Global Best Practices: Integrate global best practices in governance, leadership, and community development into local policies and initiatives, ensuring that East Ayawaso benefits from international expertise.
By implementing these strategies, we can harness the power of my international exposure to drive meaningful impact and create lasting change in East Ayawaso. May Allah make it happen.
