Jos, Oct. 9, 2024 (TheGavel) – Heavy security presence was observed in Jos on Wednesday as Plateau State conducted elections across its 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs). Security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the military were stationed at strategic locations and polling units to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free exercise.
The Plateau State Police Command had earlier implemented a movement restriction across the state to facilitate the smooth conduct of the election.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed that the police had deployed adequate personnel to all LGAs and key areas.
“We have made all necessary arrangements to ensure that the election is peaceful. Officers and men have been deployed to all 17 LGAs and some flashpoints within the metropolis,” Alabo stated.
He added that the situation remained peaceful and expressed hope that Plateau residents would continue to cooperate with security agencies for a violence-free election.(NAN)
