Obinna Udeze, the 19-month-old toddler that was flogged 31 strokes of the cane by his teacher at Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School, Asaba, Delta State, died of septic shock, an autopsy report has revealed.

DSP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, said the autopsy was conducted at the Federal Medical Centre.

“The autopsy report indicates septic shock as the cause of death. That is what I can say, for now, let the medical doctors and lawyers interpret what that means,” he said.

However, the toddler’s mother, Gift Ohanezeze, insisted her son died as a result of the flogging, pleading with the state government and police to ensure justice is served.

Obinna Udeze was said to have been canned by his teacher for getting wet after playing with water. He was referred to the Federal Medical Centre from a private hospital he was rushed to for medical attention.
