The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal on Monday declared that the Eti Osa Federal Constituency Election that produced the Labour Party candidate, Thaddeus Attah as winner to be inconclusive. The tribunal therefore ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to conduct a supplementary election for the House of Representatives in 32 polling units of the constituency within the next 90 days.
Attah, Babajide Obanikoro of the APC, and son of Lagos politician, Musiliu Obanikoro, and singer, and actor turned politician, Bankole Wellington also known as Bank W of the PDP contested to represent the Eti-Osa constituency in the House of Representatives during the 25 February election.
However, the electoral umpire declared Mr Attah the winner of the election with 24,075 votes, defeating Mr Wellington who polled 18,666 votes and Mr Obanikoro who scored 16,901 votes. Voter turnout in the local government area dropped due to attacks by hoodlums.
Contacted to know LP’s next step, Olubunmi Odesanya, the party’s spokesperson is yet to respond as at the time of going to press.
While Mr Attah can appeal the tribunal’s decision to sack him, the court of appeal can either affirm or dismiss the tribunal’s decision.
A rerun at the Federal constituency promises to be interesting as all the three candidates will go all out to win. However, Mr Attach still has a right of appeal before a supplementary election can be conducted.
