Troops Eliminate 8 Terrorists, Rescue 40 Hostages – Nigerian Army

Abuja, Sept. 30, 2024 (TheGavel) – The Nigerian Army has confirmed the elimination of eight terrorists and the rescue of 40 hostages in a series of coordinated operations across various regions in the country.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the army reported that these recent victories have dealt a significant blow to the operations of terrorist groups and their collaborators. Additionally, a notorious arms courier was arrested with a large cache of ammunition, marking a major success against arms proliferation.

The army revealed that, on Sept. 28, its troops, acting on intelligence, conducted a stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road in Nasarawa State, resulting in the arrest of a firearms courier. The operation led to the recovery of 303 live rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, concealed in a bag.

“The suspect and the vehicle were immediately taken into custody, and investigations are underway to apprehend his accomplices,” the statement read.

In another operation in Kaduna State, troops carried out precision strikes in the forests near Danmari and Saulawa villages in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. One terrorist was neutralized in the process. Further operations in Ankwa village, Kachia Local Government Area, resulted in the elimination of two terrorists, as well as the recovery of a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the terrorists.

In Borno State, troops engaged fleeing terrorists at Faayijiwa Fandanari village, Magumeri Local Government Area. The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, hard drugs, and various supplies abandoned by the terrorists, who were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower.

Operations in Gwoza Local Government Area saw the neutralization of three terrorists near Ashigashiya village. Meanwhile, vigilant troops intercepted a convoy suspected of transporting logistics to terrorists at Gubio, seizing three vehicles loaded with food supplies intended for terrorist camps and recovering the sum of N2,400.

The most significant victory came in Kukawa Local Government Area, where troops, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted terrorists attempting to relocate abducted victims from Cijin village. The terrorists fled upon sighting the troops, abandoning 38 hostages, including six men, eight women, and 24 children. All the hostages were safely rescued by the army.

In Yobe State, troops responding to reports of terrorist extortion of civilians staged a successful ambush in Sasawa village, Damaturu Local Government Area. One terrorist was neutralized, and an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle were recovered.

The Chief of Army Staff commended the troops for their bravery and relentless efforts to restore peace, while also expressing gratitude to citizens for providing valuable intelligence that led to these successes.
