TheGavel: Troops from the I Division of the Nigerian Army have neutralized a terrorist and recovered several weapons during a clearance operation in Kaduna State.
This was disclosed in a statement by Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for I Division, on Monday.
The operation took place on August 25th in the areas of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji, where troops encountered a group of terrorists. According to Yahaya, “In the ensuing firefight, our troops overpowered and neutralized one of the terrorists, while the others fled with suspected gunshot injuries.”
The items recovered during the operation included four AK-47 magazines—three of which were fully loaded with a total of 60 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition—an empty magazine, a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles (one of which was destroyed), a Tecno mobile phone, a Baofeng handheld radio, and an Airtel recharge card valued at N5,000.
Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) I Division and Commander of “Operation WHIRL PUNCH,” praised the troops for their successful operation. He encouraged them to intensify their efforts to make life unbearable for terrorists, insurgents, and their collaborators within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
Maj.-Gen. Saraso also extended his gratitude to the residents of Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa States for their ongoing cooperation. He urged the public to continue providing actionable intelligence by using the Division’s toll-free line, 0800 002 0204, to assist in offensive operations against criminal elements. (NAN)
