University of Abuja Law Students Honour Babalakin

The Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), University of Abuja Chapter, last week, organized its sessional MOOT competition in honor of the legal titan, Dr Bolanle Babalakin S.A.N. The perdurable competition traditionally crafted to showcase legal excellence in law students, received glorious animation when the president of the Law Students’ Association LAWAL FAROUQ AYOBAMI, disclosed that it was going to be held in honor of Dr B.O. Babalakin, OFR, SAN.

Indeed it was only fitting that a competition designed to showcase excellence was used as a platform to honor the undeniable excellence of Dr B.O. Babalakin, A seasoned Nigerian businessman, the chairman of Resort International Limited, Senior partner at Babalakin &co, a philanthropist, a man whose astronomical strides in life have left indelible footprints on the sands of time which will not eroded, and one the sound of whose name shakes the timbers of the Nigerian legal rainforests

The highly anticipated competition kicked off in unprecedented ardour with 8 chambers Jostling for glory and the eye watering cash prizes for winners provided by Dr Babalakin, out of his magnanimity and passion for legal excellence.

On the 5th of june, the 3 stage competition gloriously kicked off with the unification of two chambers per team, the coliseum of the faculty of law roared to life. IMEH EKANEM and JUSTICE UMAR ABDULLAHI CHAMBERS went against YUNUSA USMAN and ALEX IZIYON CHAMBERS in a splendid display of unity, teamwork and wit. However, YUNUSA USMAN and ALEX IZIYON CHAMBERS came out victors, a testament to their hard work, perseverance and diligence spiced up with some serendipity.

Two days later, TITANS AND JUSTICE CHAMBERS squared up against LIBERAL AND MINISTRY OF JUSTICE CHAMBERS, and indeed justice was not just done, but was done liberally as the latter pair came out victorious, a triumph born out of teamwork, prudence and acute focus.

The four surviving chambers proceeding with promise to the semi finals, and the other four chambers were indeed blessed with a lot of reasons to rearticulate posterity. The Semifinals arrived in palpable aura, and the four chambers were well lubricated for excellence this time, every man for himself. YUNUSA USMAN CHAMBER was pitched against MINISTRY OF JUSTICE CHAMBER, and this time it was the warriors of YUNUSA USMAN CHAMBER who manifestly did justice to the scoreline, as they edged of the MINISTRY OF JUSTICE CHAMBER in fine style. LIBERAL CHAMBER also went against the promising ALEX IZIYON CHAMBER, however the former as their name implies, expressed no restraint in snatching a place in the finals, a feat born out of passion, industry and excellence.

All was then set for an epic showdown at the grand finale, between LIBERAL CHAMBER AND YUNUSA USMAN, an encounter birthed out of sheer ardour, resilience and unity, all was surely set for the clash of Gladiators.

On the 26th of June, the skies aligned beautifully heralding the eagerly anticipated grand finale of the moot competition which took place at the Faculty’s new Moot court Complex.
The competition kicked off with a patriotic recitation of the National anthem, followed by the reading out of Dr Babalakin’s Prodigious Citation, which effortlessly provoked thunderous applause from all present at the fully occupied venue. Other highlights were the opening speech by The president of Lawsan, LAWAL FAROUQ AYOBAMI who expressed in unalloyed terms, his immeasurable gratitude to Dr Babalakin who was ably represented, and the keynote address delivered by Dr Babalakin’s representative.

The moment of moments arrived with counsel from both chambers elegantly adorned in their robes, under the auspices of Erudite Justices of the LAWSAN Court Of Appeal, seated with no less elegance, the contest began.
The wonderful exhibition of judicial adjudication, adverserail fireworks and thrilling legal exchanges, which kept all entranced, ended in favor of LIBERAL CHAMBER who emerged victorious, crowning their long journey to the finals, which was colored with undeniable signs of excellence.

The competition was gloriously rounded off with the presentation of awards and certificates by the Lawsan president, to the participants and to Dr Babalakin in recognition and appreciation of his unpararelled personality and invaluable support to the competition’s success and as a seal of cordiality between the faculty and Dr Bolanle Babalakin.
