Paris, Sept. 6, 2024 (TheGavel) – A 71-year-old woman recounted harrowing details in a French courtroom in Avignon, where her husband is on trial for allegedly drugging her and allowing dozens of men to rape her over a span of ten years. The woman, who courageously took the stand, described the abuse as “barbaric” and deeply dehumanizing.
“The image is unbearable,” she told the court. “I’m lying lifeless in my bed, asleep, and they’re about to rape me. It’s a barbaric scene. They look at me like a bag of rubbish. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get up again.”
Her husband, a 72-year-old pensioner, is accused of drugging her and arranging for the abuse, which involved more than 50 men, 18 of whom are currently in custody. The alleged crimes came to light after the man was arrested for filming under the skirts of supermarket customers. Investigators later discovered hundreds of videos on his computer documenting the assaults.
The woman, who has since divorced her husband, appeared in court accompanied by her three children. Her lawyer noted that she wanted to confront the men who had participated in the horrific acts. The defendants, aged between 21 and 68 at the time of the offences, were reportedly contacted by the husband online. Most of the men have admitted to the crimes, although some claimed they believed the woman was conscious and consenting to what they thought were consensual sex games.
The victim rejected these claims in court, asserting, “These people knew very well what they were doing and what a lethargic state I was in.”
The abuse, which took place over approximately a decade, had gone undetected due to the high doses of drugs the woman had been given by her husband. She testified that she had suffered from memory lapses and extreme fatigue but had been unaware of the abuse until the police uncovered the footage. “I was sedated, like before going into the operating theatre,” she explained. “Afterwards, you can no longer remember the operation. That’s exactly what happened to me.”
The investigation revealed that 72 men had engaged in sexual acts with the woman, but the police have been unable to identify all of them.
The trial is ongoing, and the woman continues to seek justice for the years of abuse she endured at the hands of her husband and others. (NAN)
