Kiev, Oct. 16, 2024 (TheGavel) – President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to present a new and comprehensive strategy aimed at concluding the ongoing war in Ukraine during an extraordinary session of the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday. This announcement comes as Zelensky prepares to share his “victory plan,” which he recently discussed during a tour of several Western capitals, including Washington, London, Paris, Rome, and Berlin.

The victory plan emphasizes Ukraine’s aspiration for NATO membership, a pivotal element of Zelensky’s strategy. His office has indicated that the invitation for Ukraine to join the NATO alliance is a critical step toward strengthening the country’s defense posture against ongoing aggression from Russia.

In addition to NATO membership, Zelensky is advocating for the use of long-range Western weapons against targets deep within Russia. This strategic shift aims to bring the conflict closer to Russian society, increasing pressure on the Kremlin. The president has also called for enhanced air defense systems, particularly requesting the ability to intercept Russian drones from Polish and Romanian territory, thereby expanding Ukraine’s operational reach.

Furthermore, the Ukrainian government is seeking increased Western investment in its armaments industry. Zelensky believes that bolstering domestic production capabilities is essential for sustaining the fight against Russian forces and ensuring long-term security for Ukraine.

During various speeches, Zelensky has expressed optimism about achieving an end to the conflict on Ukraine’s terms by the year 2025. This vision comes in the wake of Russia’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014 and the subsequent invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022, which has resulted in Russia controlling approximately one-fifth of Ukrainian territory. Notably, Ukrainian forces have recently made advances into Russia’s southern Kursk region, reclaiming strategic ground.

As Zelensky prepares to address parliament, the international community is closely monitoring Ukraine’s strategic maneuvers and the potential implications for the future of the conflict.(NAN)
