73-yr-old man docked over alleged land grabbing

A 73-year-old man, Wahab Kolapo, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over an alleged land grabbing.

Kolapo, whose address was not provided, is charged with conspiracy, land grabbing and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sikiru Opaleye told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2021, at Akobo area, Ibadan.

Opaleye said the defendant and others at large conspired to unlawfully grab a plot of land belonging to one Segun Adeoti and family.

He said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by preventing Adeoti and family from entering the said land at Akobo area.

The defendant also damaged their corner piece worth N7.5 million.

He said the offences contravened Sections 4 of the Real Property Protection Law, 2016 and sections 516 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2.5 million with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi adjourned the case until Oct. 21, for hearing.
