Announcing the actor’s passing in a social media post, Oloketuyi wrote: “Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life.”

Nigerian actor and filmmaker Saheed Balogun joined other colleagues in mourning the veteran actor. In a tribute posted on Instagram, Balogun wrote: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful.”

Ogogo’s death comes only days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, publicly appealed for medical assistance on his behalf.

On August 17, 2026, the sisters took to social media to seek medical advice and support for their father, revealing that his health had deteriorated significantly.

According to Kaira, doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition. The family subsequently explored alternative treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies.

Widely regarded as one of the most respected figures in the Nigerian film industry, Ogogo built a successful career spanning several decades. He was particularly renowned for his roles in Yoruba-language films, where his commanding screen presence and versatility earned him a loyal fan base across Nigeria and beyond.

His death has sparked an outpouring of grief from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom have taken to social media to celebrate his contributions to the growth and development of Nollywood.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
