Ondo State governor, Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akedolu(Aketi) SAN is dead. He died at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday at a Lagos hospital where he was receiving treatment, a senior government official in Ondo State confirmed. He was 67 years old.
He died of leukemia and prostate cancer, two ailments that had made him incapacitated for several months.
It was learnt that he was managed by State House doctors until he died because he could not be flown abroad. “They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week.”
Akeredolu had had a long battle with cancer which resulted in his inability to carry out his functions for many months.
He recently handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Adetiyewa before proceeding on another medical leave.
An astute lawyer, turned politician, Akeredolu was a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), after which he became governor of Ondo State on February 24, 2017 until his demise on December 27, 2023.
