Two men have been arrested in Akwa Ibom State in connection with an armed robbery case after police traced a stolen Samsung phone to one of them. One of the suspects, 53-year-old David Samuel Isaac, was taken into custody following a discreet investigation by the police.
According to a statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, Isaac had previously been charged for similar offences in 2024.
In a surprising twist, the second suspect, Emmanuel Mendie Peter, allegedly visited the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit on July 30, 2025, and offered ₦800,000 in cash to the officer in charge, CSP Ebong Thompson, in an attempt to secure Isaac’s release.
The police officer rejected the bribe outright and ordered the immediate arrest of the second suspect. Authorities say the money was intended not only to influence the release of the primary suspect but also to suppress evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended CSP Thompson and all officers involved in the operation with letters of recognition for their professionalism and integrity.
“The command warns members of the public against attempts to interfere with police investigations. Such actions will be met with the full weight of the law,” DSP John stated.
The police are continuing their investigation and have assured the public that justice will be pursued without compromise.
