The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye on Friday night advised members of the church not to be afraid of coronavirus, saying that none of the members will die before their time. He however advised members to get vaccinated to put their minds at rest.

Pastor Adeboye gave the advice at the October Holy Ghost service which took place at the Redemption Camp on October 1, 2020. The General Overseer, who came to the pulpit around midnight said there was a need to give his views on the coronavirus pandemic as several people had asked about it. He said the address is for his children in his congregation and does not represent the views of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) or the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

He said:”If getting vaccinated is a criteria for me to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in any part of the world, I will get vaccinated many times over”.

Pastor Adeboye recalling the genesis of the virus said “safety is of the Lord. It is by the mercies of God that we are not consumed”. He called the pandemic a “roaring lion and noisome pestilence”. He said that if the predictions of  intelligent scientific people at the initial stage were to be believed, Africa should be counting deaths in the hundreds of thousands by now. “But there is a God that answers prayers”.

He added: “When the pandemic was going to start, God told me that the world was going to behave like a child in convulsion. God later told me that the world was going to have a compulsory holiday. As soon as it became clear that we were going to be in trouble, I cried unto the Lord that we had no help but Him”.

He said Africa’s situation could be likened to that of a cow without a tail. “Unfortunately, the majority of our doctors and scientists have gone in search of greener pastures abroad. The Lord said to me, I’ve heard your cry. Only those whose time has come are going to die from the virus. So let me tell you, do not be afraid of the virus. You will not die before your time. But that does not mean we should be careless. You all know that we take the issue of cleanliness and environmental sanitation very seriously, particularly during our conventions”. He therefore advised the congregation to take their cleanliness very seriously.

The GO said that snake bites kill about 2000 Nigerians every year. “is not a surprise that coronavirus has not killed more than 4000 Nigerians. I have never told you not to get vaccinated. If you believe it will put your mind at rest, get the vaccine”, he said.
