Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reshuffled his cabinet, appointing a new Head of Service and six commissioners, while reassigning three others to different portfolios.
At a swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House, Enugu, the appointees took the Oath of Office administered by Ms. Chizoba Ogbodo of the Ministry of Justice.
Dr. Godwin Anigbo was sworn in as the new Head of Service. Others appointed as commissioners include Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh (Works and Infrastructure), Prof. Benedeth Ekwutosi Okoli (Human Development and Poverty Eradication), Eyinna Franklin Ogbonna (Energy and Mineral Resources), Dr. Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo (Trade, Investment, and Industry), Prof. George Ugwu (Health), and Engr. Ben Collins Ndu Jr. (Water Resources).
In the reshuffle, Dr. Felix Nnamani moved from the Ministry of Water Resources to Labour and Employment, Dr. Malachy Agbo from Human Development and Poverty Eradication to Information, and Engr. Gerald Otiji from Works and Infrastructure to Housing.
Governor Mbah urged the new officials to begin work immediately, stressing that there would be no grace period. He said his administration had raised expectations across the state and must continue delivering results.
“You have to hit the ground running, as there will be no honeymoon period for you,” he said. “Every day, it feels as though we are presenting a scorecard. Our people are watching.”
The governor stressed teamwork, discouraging silo operations. “We do not encourage working in isolation. You must see your colleagues as partners, not rivals. Our modest achievements have all been products of collective effort.”
Speaking on behalf of the new appointees, Dr. Ogbu-Nwobodo thanked the governor for the trust placed in them and pledged their commitment to the administration’s vision.
“We will be loyal and dedicated in our duties. We will not let you down,” he said.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Chief of Staff Mr. Victor Udeh, other senior government officials, and the families of the appointees.
Four former commissioners were dropped in the shake-up. They include Mrs. Adaora Chukwu (Trade and Investment), Mr. Chika Ugwuoke (Labour), Dr. Ikechukwu Obi (Health), and Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, who currently serves as the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
