July 15, 2026, marked a significant milestone in the life of Lagos-based lawyer, anti-corruption activist and chartered arbitrator, Oluwagbenga Ebenezer Babawibe, Esq., as he celebrates his 50th birthday.
Born on July 15, 1976, in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, Babawibe has built an admirable career distinguished by professional excellence, academic accomplishment and an unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law.
A legal practitioner, barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Babawibe is an Associate Partner at Urbane Attorneys & Solicitors, a respected law firm based in Ikeja, Lagos. Over the years, he has earned a reputation as a dedicated advocate and human rights defender, combining legal expertise with a passion for promoting fairness, equity and peaceful dispute resolution.
Beyond the courtroom, he is a chartered arbitrator and mediator whose professional affiliations reflect his commitment to continuous learning and global best practices. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom (MCIArb-UK), an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Mediation and Conciliation (AICMC), and a student member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
Babawibe’s impressive academic journey mirrors his pursuit of excellence. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the prestigious Lead City University, Ibadan, before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja Campus, where he earned his Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) qualification. He further broadened his intellectual horizons with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the National Open University of Nigeria.
His quest for deeper legal scholarship led him to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.), specialising in taxation law, secured credit transactions, energy resources law and maritime law. His master’s thesis, which examined the taxation of Nigeria’s informal sector, explored its prospects and challenges and contributed to ongoing conversations on tax policy and economic development. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Law at the University of Lagos.
Away from his demanding professional and academic pursuits, Babawibe is a devoted family man, happily married and blessed with children. Those who know him describe him as disciplined, intellectually curious and deeply committed to mentoring younger lawyers while championing causes that advance justice and human rights.
