Jos Laundry Worker Sentenced to 3 Months for Phone Theft

Jos, Oct. 17, 2024 (TheGavel) – A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old laundry worker, Abubakar Muhammad, to three months in a correctional facility for stealing a cell phone from a woman’s shop. The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, handed down the sentence after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Bokkos, while delivering the verdict, offered Muhammad an alternative option of paying a fine of N15,000 to avoid the jail term.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Labaran Ahmed, told the court that the incident occurred on Sept. 30, when Muhammad entered the woman’s shop under the guise of shopping and stole the phone. The case was subsequently reported to the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by Abubakar Yunus, leading to the arrest and prosecution of the accused.

According to the prosecutor, the offence violated the Plateau State Penal Code Law.(NAN)
