Mohammed Fawehinmi dies at 52

Mohammed, the first son of the late foremost Nigerian lawyer, Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawhinmi SAM, SAN is dead. He died on Wednesday early evening in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos. He was 52 years old.

Mohammed, a lawyer was reported to have complained of difficulty in breathing on Wednesday morning and was taken to the hospital. He gave up the ghost later in the evening.

A source close to the Fawehinmi family said the sad news is yet to be broken to his mother, Mrs Ganiat Fawehinmi, who is equally suffering for an undisclosed ailment. “Mama has been sick for a while. It is difficult to break this news to her. We have sent an emissary to the Archbishop Vining Anglican Church where she worships to come and break the news to her on Thursday morning”, the source disclosed.

Mohammed’s death came 12 years after his illustrious father died. Gani died on September 5, 2009.

He was born on February 21, 1969. He had his primary school at Kotun Memorial School, Surulere, Lagos and his secondary education at Federal Government College, Sokoto. He was a graduate of Business Administration of the University of Lagos in 1991.

He obtained an LLB degree from the University of Buckingham, England and was called to Nigerian Bar in 1998. He has had over 20 years experience in the practice of law.

A car accident he had on September 23, 2003, while returning from from court resulted in a spinal Cord injury which confined him to wheelchair until his death. The late Gani Fawehinmi made spirited efforts to save his son by taking him to the best hospitals in the world, all to no avail.
