Lagos, Oct. 14, 2024 (TheGavel) – The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that there were no casualties following the collapse of a building in Orile-Iganmu, a suburb of Lagos, on Monday morning.
In a statement issued by Mr. Nosa Okunbor, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at LASEMA, the agency disclosed that the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. The building reportedly collapsed on its own at Amusu Street, near Baale Bus Stop in the Orile-Iganmu area.
“LASEMA Response Teams are conducting a search and rescue operation at the scene of the self-collapsed building on Amusu Street, Baale Bus Stop, Orile-Iganmu. Thankfully, there are no casualties to report at this time,” Okunbor said.
The agency is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue into the cause of the collapse. Emergency response teams remain on-site to ensure the safety of the surrounding area and to prevent any secondary incidents.
This latest incident adds to the ongoing concerns surrounding building integrity in Lagos, a state that has experienced several similar collapses in recent years.
