President Bola Tinubu has described his emergence as Nigeria’s President as a special favour from Almighty God, saying his position among millions of Nigerians is a privilege that only divine intervention could make possible.
The President made the remarks on Monday, November 2, while reflecting on his recent spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia, where he performed the lesser Hajj, known as Umrah.
During the pilgrimage, Tinubu was granted the privilege by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to lead Nigeria’s delegation in prayers inside the Holy Ka’abah in Makkah.
The President disclosed that he used the opportunity to offer prayers of gratitude to Almighty Allah for making it possible for him to serve as Nigeria’s leader.
He also said he prayed for wisdom and resilience to enable him to continue discharging his responsibilities to Nigerians.
“Well, I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that prayer has been granted. Before the 2023 election, I did the same thing. I asked Allah to bless my Umrah then, and He did.
“And I promised that I would come back to thank Him,” Tinubu said.
The President said his faith in Allah had reinforced his belief that becoming Nigeria’s leader was an extraordinary blessing that should be accompanied by dedicated service to the country.
“I have faith in that, and I believe extremely well that He has done me and my country a great favour. Out of many millions of people, to be the President and Commander-in-Chief is a favour that only Almighty God can do to a human being,” he stated.
On the country’s economic situation, Tinubu expressed optimism about the progress made since his administration assumed office.
He described the economic foundation as solid, adding that Nigeria was gradually emerging from a difficult period.
“The foundation is solid, and the economy has come out of the dark tunnel. This is inspiring,” the President said.
Tinubu’s remarks came after his arrival in Saudi Arabia, where he undertook the Umrah pilgrimage and offered prayers for Nigeria, its citizens and the success of his administration.
