The Executive Chairman of Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Mallam Masud Aliyu Umar, has died in a road accident while returning from a political meeting in Bauchi.

The fatal accident occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Konkiyal village in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.

Umar was reportedly travelling back to Zaki Local Government Area after attending a stakeholders’ meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), convened by the party earlier that day in Bauchi, when the accident occurred.

His death comes barely three months after he was elected chairman of Zaki Local Government Area on August 17, 2026, alongside the chairpersons of the state’s other 19 local government areas.

Before his election, Umar served as the Director-General of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

His death has cut short his tenure as the elected head of the local government, having assumed office only recently.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayer for the deceased has been scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, at 2pm at the Palace of the District Head, Mur Mur, in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
