The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested three men suspected of impersonating officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The suspects were arrested after police operatives intercepted a Lexus IS 250 without a registration number during a routine patrol around Bukan Sidi in Lafia, the state capital.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Rahman Nansel, disclosed this in a statement, identifying the suspects as Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu and Ibrahim Suleiman.

According to the statement, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit stopped the vehicle while patrolling the area and questioned its occupants.

During interrogation, Mohammed Nuhu allegedly identified himself as an ICPC officer and presented an identification card purportedly issued by the anti-corruption agency.

However, when Mohammed Umar, who was driving the vehicle, was asked to explain its ownership, he reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory response.

The three occupants were subsequently arrested for further investigation.

The police said investigations later revealed that the ICPC identification card presented by Nuhu was allegedly forged.

Nuhu reportedly claimed that he accompanied the driver from Kaduna State to Lafia because Umar did not have a valid driving licence.

Further profiling of the suspects also allegedly linked Ibrahim Suleiman to an unlawful group known as the Eiye Confraternity.

The Command said the suspects would be charged in court for prosecution, while investigations were continuing to establish the ownership of the vehicle and determine whether other offences were connected to the incident.
