President Donald Trump of the United States announced that air strikes has been carried out by the US military against ISIL (ISIS) fighters in northwest Nigeria.
Trump in an X post stated: “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries!” Mr Trump said in a statement on Truth Social late on Thursday.
The US African Command (AFRICOM) in another X post confirmed President Trump’s statement this: “AFRICOM conducted a strike at the request of Nigerian authorities in Soboto(Sokoto) State killing multiple ISIS terrorists. Lethal strikes against ISIS demonstrate the strength of our military and our commitment to eliminating terrorist threats against Americans at home and abroad”.
President Trump has warned terrorists carried out genocide against Christians in Nigeria declared “Nigeria as a country of particular concern”.
He said tonight: “I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was”.
Few hours before the strikes began, Israeli President, Benjamin Netanyahu gave an inkling of what to come when in Christmas message warned against killing of Christians and peoples of other faith in Nigeria. In his Christmas message on Wednesday, December 24, Netanyahu said attacks against Christians or adherents of any faith were unacceptable, singling out militant violence in Nigeria as an urgent concern.
“The persecution of Christians or members of any religion cannot and must not be tolerated,” Netanyahu said, adding that attacks against Christians in Nigeria “must end, and it must end now.”
